The Dangers of listening to 'end prophet' Maria Divine Mercy (thewarningssecondcoming.com)

There has been a lot of talk over recent months about a woman, who has remained anonymous except to call herself Maria Divine Mercy, and who claims to be receiving messages from Christ.

The Church has no official view on these claims as far as I am aware.  Indeed the Church appears to be paying no heed to it and you can understand why when you consider many of the claims being made, including a claim that Pope Francis is the 'antipope' and that 'Maria' herself is the 'end prophet'.

Dwelling on the Word of God: Go and sin no more (Friday 31st January 2014)

From today's Psalm (Psalm 503-7,10-11):

'Have mercy on us O Lord, for we have sinned'

For many people, including people who make up the Church, we Catholic folks are a bit obsessed with sin.  We talk about it all of the time.  But then there is good reason to talk about it as often as we do.  Jesus often spoke about it .  St Paul loved speaking about it!  And the three children of Fatima spent endless hours praying and sacrificing because of it, instead of playing as most children do!

Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, gives his views on same-sex marriage; answering the difficult questions and making the case for 'traditional' marriage between a man and a woman.  Please note the interview took place in the early part of 2013.

Proving God Exists

Here is a fantastic piece by Matthew Warner on proving the existence of God.  A good read for skeptics and those who doubt, or those who simply want to be encouraged in their faith.

Dwelling on the Word of God: A Shining Light to Others (Thursday 30th January 2014)

Today's Gospel (Mark 4:21-25):

'Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Would you bring in a lamp to put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely you will put it on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to this.’
He also said to them, ‘Take notice of what you are hearing. The amount you measure out is the amount you will be given – and more besides; for the man who has will be given more; from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

US House of Representatives in Pro-Life Vote

By a significant majority of 227-188 the US House of Representatives has passed new legislation prohibiting federal funding for abortion except in certain circumstances such as rape and incest.

It is hoped this legislation will prevent the unneccessary deaths of thousands of babies across the US and is yet another victory for the pro-life cause.

Religion in Schools: The Debate Rolls On

There are currently two secular initiatives being presented to the Scottish Parliament around the role of religion in education.  One is to do with the representation by religious on education committees within local authorities, the other is to do with whether parents should be entitled to opt their children 'in' to religious observance at their school as opposed to the existing system of opt 'out'.

As more of these initiatives start to surface there is a growing disquiet among people of an undercurrent that is continually trying to chip away at the existence of faith schools in our country.

Dwelling on the Word of God: The Church: an earthly dwelling place for God (Wednesday 29th January 2014)

St Peter's Basilica, Rome

From today's first reading (2 Samuel 7:7-14):

'"The Lord will make you great; the Lord will make you a House. And when your days are ended and you are laid to rest with your ancestors, I will preserve the offspring of your body after you and make his sovereignty secure. (It is he who shall build a house for my name, and I will make his royal throne secure for ever.) I will be a father to him and he a son to me....Your House and your sovereignty will always stand secure before me and your throne be established for ever.

Dwelling on the Word of God: Jesus is waiting for you (Tuesday 28th January 2014)

Jesus is present in the tabernacle

Today's Gospel (Mark 3:31-35):

'The mother and brothers of Jesus arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him. A crowd was sitting round him at the time the message was passed to him, ‘Your mother and brothers and sisters are outside asking for you.’ He replied, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking round at those sitting in a circle about him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother.
