From today’s Gospel (Luke 19:45-48):
‘Jesus went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling. ‘According to scripture,’ he said ‘my house will be a house of prayer. But you have turned it into a robbers’ den.’’
Jesus sees that people are selling things in the temple and he takes the opportunity to make a very important point. He tells them that the temple is a house of prayer. This, of course, is relevant to our own churches today. They, like the temple, are houses of prayer….God’s house.
Nowadays churches and, more so, church halls are used for a lot of different things. While the church hall may well be used for certain other activities other than prayer, it is important to ensure the church itself remains a house of prayer, dedicated to the worship and praise of God.
