Free speech in Scotland appears to be in rapid decline following Dundee University's decision to ban the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (SPUC) from having a stand at its freshers' fayre.
The University has suggested that such a stall would be contrary to their constitution and that there have been instances of trouble relating to the SPUC in the past (the SPUC has had a stand at the event for the last eight years). The University has, as of yet, failed to provide any evidence of past trouble and there appears to be no basis whatsoever for the claim that a pro-life stand would be in opposition to the University's constitution. This isn't perhaps surprising given the fact the SPUC has had a stall at the event in each of the last eight years! If it is so contrary to the University's constitution why have they entertained an SPUC stand for so long?
