Dwelling on the Word of God: Turn to God (Thursday 27th March 2014)

From today’s Gospel Acclamation (Joel 2:12-13):

‘Now, now – it is the Lord who speaks – come back to me with all your heart,
for I am all tenderness and compassion.’

Who would turn down an invitation from someone who is ‘all tenderness and compassion’?

God, in this passage, is telling us what He is all about.  He is pure love.  He is also tender and compassionate and He is inviting us to come back to Him and to allow ourselves to be enveloped by His perfect love.

Nobody can rival the love of God.  Nobody can rival His tenderness and His compassion.  He loves each and every one of us and He is waiting for each and every one of us to come back to Him.  If we have felt far from God in recent times, be it voluntarily or because we just haven’t felt that connection, maybe now is the time to turn back to Him.  Maybe now is the time to sit in a quiet place and tell Him that we are struggling to recognise this great love of His.  God wants to help us to be able to be part of His great love and if we are distant then He wants us to tell Him that this is the case.  Simply by speaking to Him we will show Him that we love Him and that we recognise His presence in our lives.  God will then react to our call and help us in our struggles.

Take a step towards God today and let Him help you in your difficulties.  He is waiting for you.

This passage from the book of Wisdom is a perfect insight into the persecution of Jesus Christ that is to come a few hundred years later. It is also an incredible insight into the minds of Jesus’ persecutors. It highlights, in a striking way, the beauty of the Word of God.

I am a christian. The religion is loving and believing in God and his son Jesus. You ask Jesus in to your heart and he will live there for eternity. When you die, and if you have Jesus in your heart, You will go to heaven.
