From today's reading (1 Peter 1:3-9):
'You did not see him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with a joy so glorious that it cannot be described, because you believe; and you are sure of the end to which your faith looks forward, that is, the salvation of your souls.'
St Peter, who himself knew Jesus, has great news for us! He tells us that although we haven't seen Christ as he has seen Christ, our love for him and our faith in him will result in the salvation of our souls!
Isn't it great to know that we are loved and that our faith can save us? Yet there are so many people in our world who do not believe this. We must reach out to these people and spread the news of great joy.
When someone has a new baby you are desperate to tell others about the great news. When your favourite sports team wins a big game you are always desperate to share the news. If you see something funny in the street during your lunchtime stroll you will probably relay it to your work colleagues on your return to the office.
Yet we so often fail to share the real big news story: the salvation of our souls! St Peter wasn't afraid to share this news, even though it eventually brought him to a horrific death. Perhaps it is time we went the extra mile to show the joy of our faith to others. Consider what you can do today to bring this news of great joy to your part of the world...
